Promoting the Synergies within the Cluster of Biodiversity-Related Multilateral Environmental Agreements

The objective of this report is to analyse the potential for enhancing synergies between the biodiversity-related agreements and to develop a set of practical options for realising synergies built around four selected key areas primarily at global (multilateral environmental agreements, MEA) level and informing and supporting MEA processes at the regional and national levels. The key areas include: 1) The science-policy interface (including the role of IPBES), 2) National Biodiversity Strategies and Action Plans (NBSAPs) and the national implementation of the Strategic Plan for Biodiversity 2011-2020, 3) National reporting, 4) Capacity-building. In addition, the report suggests a roadmap for achieving the suggested synergies for MEA governing bodies and the UNEP Governing Council through a party-driven process.
