Del esplendor a la crisis. Las Misiones de guaraníes entre 1734 y 1744

During the 1734-1744 decade, the Guaranies Jesuit Missions underwent one the most serious crisis they had ever suffered, specially when they thought they had reached the summit. At that time, some conflicts foreign to their jurisdiction in Paraguay and Colonia del Sacramento arose, as well as some internal calamities, demographic drop and serious deficiencies in the pastoral services rendered to people. The strong and efficient participation of the different hierarchies of the Society of Jesús (“Compañía de Jesús”) allowed to restore the so-called “old order” and surmount the crisis.
