A Systematic Approach to the Diagnosis of Paediatric Neck Masses

Abstract Paediatric neck masses represent a broad spectrum of pathologies, including lesions of congenital, inflammatory, and neoplastic origin. Adequate clinical history and physical examination direct the diagnosis. However, imaging is usually required for the final diagnosis. To better choose the most appropriate imaging modality, and more accurately diagnose these lesions, radiologists should be familiar not only with the spectrum of pathologies, but also with the clinical presentation and physical examination findings. We present some of the most frequent diagnosis, and some other less frequent, yet pertinent, organized according to the different cervical spaces. This systematic approach to the subject allows a quick search for clinical use and helps remembering the different pathologies.
