Adaptation and Validation of Sport-Confidence Measure to Gymnasts and Football Players

Abstract This study aimed to adapt the Sport-Confidence Inventory to Brazilian athletes and to investigate validity and reliability of adapted instrument. Elite athletes from 12 to 22 years of age that practice artistic gymnastics, rhythm gymnastics or football have participated in the study. The research procedures were: a) to realize the transcultural adaptation of SCI; b) to investigate evidences of content validity by pilot study; c) to investigate the construct validity, by principal component analysis; and d) to investigate reliability evidences by analysis of Cronbach's alpha values of the adapted instrument. Results showed reliability evidences of the instrument to the application in gymnasts and football players. Construct validity indicated different composition to the subscales in each group. Future research may improve the semantic quality of Questionário de Autoconfiança no Esporte, considering the particularities of each sport.
