Collaborative learning in the production of diagnostic imaging: detailing group practices

Abstract: Considering collaborative work is a growing phenomenon, understand how groups learn effectively is critical. This research aimed to identify and detailed the practices performed in the processes of diagnostic imaging that support continuous learning in groups of radiologists. It is a multiple case study that presents practical and context dependent knowledge about group practices in the specific radiology and imaging environment. Data were collected through semi-structured observations and interviews, with members of three groups belonging to different radiology and diagnostic imaging organizations. The results of this study show how a learning culture, integration and cooperation, an adequate physical environment, the support of the leadership and the technological support when combining attendance-based and virtual activities guarantee the organizational learning in the groups and individual of the radiologist, creating transformative and disruptive paths. It concludes the use of appropriate practices facilitates the learning of the groups.
