Mangroves in Panama: Importance, Biodiversity and Measures for their Conservation

Mangroves provide a great number of benefits to the ecosystem, such as water supply services, food, biochemicals, fuels, genetic materials, water purification, erosion regulation, fish and shellfish breeding area, coastal protection against flooding, retention of sediments from rivers and drains, salt capture from seawater, the capture of greenhouse gases, high level of oxygen production, and medicinal uses, among many others. It is important to be able to recognize their value and follow the appropriate steps for their conservation.
