The Passeriform Birds of Tucumán, Argentina

Faunistic inventories are a valuable tool before the biodiversity loss caused by anthropic growth and the subsequent transformation of habitats. This work has the objective of providing a catalog of the passerine birds in the province of Tucumán, drawn from the species effectively registered in the field, the ones quoted in literature during the past two decades, and the exemplars captured and deposited in the Ornithological Collection of the Fundación Miguel Lillo since 1846 until 2018. The perusal of 96 works on the tucumán avifauna and 12 national and international guides, in addition to the collection data, have determined the presence of 261 species belonging to 24 families of the order Passeriform with the uncertain presence of another 8 species. 96% of the families and 90% of the species of Tucumán are represented in the Ornithological Collection of the Fundación Miguel Lillo, further solidifying its role as a reference collection. We counted 65 species with any kind of migratory displacement, 17 included in any conservation category and 10 regionally endemics. The previously published work on the Non-passeriform birds of Tucumán and this one on Passeriform birds compose the updated inventory of the avifauna in Tucumán, resulting in a valuable contribution to its knowledge and providing information as a basis for management and conservation projects.
