In Panama, a liming test was conducted in an oxisol. For this test, exchangeable aluminum x 2 was utilized to determine the dosis of lime required to neutralized 0, 75, 150, 225 and 300% of the exchangeable acidity. Chemical analyses showed that the 75 and 150% dosis neutralized the toxic effect of the aluminum. The application of lime increased the pH from 5.0 to 7.0, while the effective CIC increased from 3.98 to 14.67 meq/100g of soil. The saturation percentage of the aluminum decreased from 70.83 to traces. From experiments realized in a greenhouse, it was determined that the soil was highly defficient in N-P-K and in lime, and that parting from the fourth level (225% of neutralization in exchangeable aluminum) an over-liming was observed.
