Technical and financial study for the production of one hectare of fig (Ficus carica) in Tierra Blanca, Cartago, Costa Rica

The objective of research was to determine the feasibility of producing a hectare of fig (Ficus vcarica) in the Tierra Blanca zone of Cartago, place where the greatest amount of fig is produced at national level, for a period of ten years, a period in which the plantation is completely depreciated. In this regard, a study to determine the commercial, technical, environmental, legal and financial viability of the crop. The technical study concluded that the district of Tierra Blanca is the area that best meets the requirements for fig cultivation. The environmental study showed that, when passing from a field dedicated to onion and carrot, to one of fig plantations different components such as water and air are favored. Finally, through the financial study was able to determine that the project if it is profitable, presenting an IRR of 28% and a NPV of 25.340.833 colones, or equivalent US $ 40.450.
