RELATIONSHIP OF NINE COMPETITION INDEXES WITH STEM GROWTH DIAMETER OF Pinus cooperi BLANCO

The relationship between nine competition indexes dependent on distance, including tree size, neighbor distance, and growth space for tree, with the diameter growth of individual trees, was investigated for a mixed uneven-aged forest of Pinus cooperi Blanco in Durango, México. The cuadratic model best predicted diameter growth as a function of competition indexes. Point density competition index, basal area, the weighted ratios, and the variable radius growth space indexes, showed positive and significative relationships (from 0.686** to 0.689**) with growth in diameter when the cuadratic model was used. The inclusion of site index improved significantly the diameter growth prediction.
