Development models, male identity and family: two generations of workers from Huachipato

The “Compañía de Acero del Pacífico” is considered, and the Huachipato steel plant in specific, as an important industrialization pole within the Biobio region. This research is an approach to the male workers life trajectories in relation with the male identity construction and the ways to build family, making a comparison of two generations considering the change of the development pattern in Chile. Since the analysis of a number of interviews, changes and continuities have been found between both generations, linking the particular life experiences with the structural changes experienced in the country since the military coup in 1973.
