On poverty situation in Brazil in a multidimensional approach

- This paper analyzes the evolution of the poverty policy in Brazil, with special focus on the Plano Brasil sem Miséria adopted in 2011. The program introduces the concept of multidimensional poverty in its scope. This paper explores the poverty situation in  economic and social approaches. In the past decade, Brazil has prioritized the public programs oriented for the reduction of monetary poverty condition. Only recently, public policy has broadened its scope to contemplate the social dimensions of poverty. The paper presents an evaluation on recent evolution of the socioeconomic poverty, proposing indicators with a multidimensional perspective for the governance of the public policy. The concern is justified by the structural nature of poverty in the country, which requires a complex strategy on long-term to overcome this condition.
