Hacia nuevas formas de integración económica en América Latina : lecciones de una experiencia

Two decades have passed since Latin America began its contemporary experiences in regional economic integration. Different models of integration, different geographic groups, varied theoretical efforts, and contrasting political and economic realities have successively combined to ultimately result in a situation that can basically be described as one of crisis. What are the underlying difficulties that have determined this critical situation or influenced the failure to achieve the desired objectives? This article analyzes this problem in the light of Latin American experiences and their corresponding lessons, in order to project on this basis some ideas regarding the new forms of economic integration and cooperation that seem to emerge during the current decade.
