Latin American workshop on the genetic improvement of dual-purpose cattle

Dual-purpose cattle production systems in Latin America are of undoubted importance for development. However, the scientific basis for its improvement is lacking, especially in the area of genetics. In order to discuss the current state of knowledge and review research priorities, a group of researchers met in Maracay, Venezuela in June, 1994. The group consisted of specialists in genetics, as well as experts in the areas of economics, extension and development of production systems, so that the points of view of geneticists were constantly confronted with questions about the reality of the field.
