This articles examines the history and development of Shell Invaders Steel Orchestra, now called Trintoc Invaders. The history of Shell Invaders goes back to the very roots of the steelband tradition, as the band started in 1938 in "Hell Yard" Charlotte Street. Under the effective and inspired leadership of Ellie Mannette the steelband moved from social ostracism to the threshold of respectability.
