Panmen Can't Cope With Classics
There have been two major steelband presentations entirely of classical music, the first in Trinidad and Tobago. The Samaroo Jets gave a concert of complete works and the Trinidad All Stars followed up at Queen's Hall. The All Stars' programme was more spectacular than the Samaroos, using vocal soloists, a visiting choir, and an energetic conductor. However, music critic Jeremy Taylor felt that 'classics on pan' will always have an experimental, occasional flavour to it and that the steelband really can not do justice to this sort of music.
