Signaleringsoverleg Voedselveiligheid: Jaarrapportage 2020 : Report RIVM-2021-0033

People can become ill due to bacteria, viruses or chemical substances in their food. In 2019, the Dutch Safety Board advised the prompt, systematic identification and analysis of new food safety risks so that measures can be taken more rapidly to protect people’s health. In response to this, the Ministries of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS) and Agriculture, Nature and Fisheries (LNV) have set up the Food safety early warning unit to watch out for and identify emerging microbiological and chemical risks. The Food safety early warning unit comprises experts from RIVM, Wageningen Food Safety Research (WFSR), the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority (NVWA), the Dutch Board for the Authorisation of Plant Protection Products and Biocides (Ctgb) and the Medicines Evaluation Board (CBG). Its first two meetings were held in the second half of 2020. The experts have identified various issues, two of which have, after careful consideration, been reported in confidence to VWS and LNV and the NVWA.
