Dialogue on the special relation between iron mining and agriculture in Okuizumo: a cultural heritage.

At an Japan-Netherlands art festival in Yokota an Okuizumo, (Japan) a series of workshop dialogues was organized around matters of interest in that region. I participated in a dialogue about the proposed Globally Important Argicultural Heritage Site (GIAHS) in Okuizumo. This site exemplifies how local knowledge is deployed in sustainable iron mining, agriculture, water an forest management. GIAHS is managed by the UN Food and Agriculture Organizations (FAO). The Netherlands government has supported GIAHS in the past. During the Dialogue the site and its context were discussed.
