Time dependent, one-dimensional linearized moisture flow including water uptake by roots in the presence of a shallow water table

Solutions of the time dependent moisture flow equation with plantwater extraction are primariry obtained by numerical techniques. Analytical solutions are, by necessity, subject to more restrictive assurnptions, but are generally easy and inexpensive to evaluate. They provide exact answers for whlich round-off and computational errors are negligible. Such solutions are valuable for checking complicated numerical simulations as well as for providing answers when the assumptions are satisfied or the input data are such that a more elaborate analysis would be unnecessary. In this report a solution of the problem of the title will he derived.
