Caracterización de la enfermedad punta de lanza en plantación de Hevea Brasiliensis (willd. ex a. juss.) müll. arg. euphorbiaceae. Hule en crecimiento de finca Chitalón, Mazatenango, Suchitepéquez.

Finca Chitalón, located at 2.5 kilometers from Mazatenango, Suchitepéquez, it has 451 hectares, which are divided in seven sectors planted with rubber trees in the state of growth, one of the sectors is called the Island in which we have planted RIMM 600, this is a young plantation, it was planted in June of 2010, the island has 9,400 trees. In 2013 we noticed the plantation had been infected by the disease of “Punta de Lanza” in the Island sector, in total we had 228 trees with bark damage, which is a 2.43% of the total plantation of that sector, this is exceptionally high according to the Gremial de Huleros de Guatemala. In search of the cause for the infestation of “Punta de Lanza” we found four factors, a) the symptoms and development of the disease b) the handling and care of the sector c) different climate conditions and also differences in soil were detected d) the presences of fungi infection in the tree wounds. It was determined that the factor b): method used to plant the trees and calcimine, and the factor c): soil and amount of rain or watering, provided the conditions that allowed the disease of “Punta de Lanza” to spread, while the trimming, calcimine the trees, control of fungi and weeds, didn´t participate in the development of the disease.
