Recurrent education: economics and equity issues in Australia
Drawing upon an extensive literature, this book discusses the relevance of the recurrent education concept in Australia. It examines from an economic and equity perspective, the principal arguments which have been advanced for the development of a model of recurrent educational provision, and it traces the evolution of this concept. The arguments for recurrent education put forward are divided into three main sections: the internal operations of the education sector, the relationship between education and the labour market, and the distribution of educational opportunities between and within different age groups. The possible costs and financing of recurrent education programmes are taken into consideration. It is concluded that the development of recurrent education programmes presupposes that the implications of technological change are more thoroughly anticipated
