Education, training and employment: report of the Committee of Inquiry into Education and Training
This Committee reviewed possible educational developments in Australia up to 2000. Within the terms of reference it made recommendations concerning the provision of educational facilities and services. It studied the overall pattern of institutions and courses including their objectives, the responsibility of State and Commonwealth in relation to nature and location of institutions, the extent of the provision, the accessibility of opportunities, the preparation for employment, the provision of recurrent education, and evaluation of the system. As regards the relationship between the educational system and the labour market, the Committee examined the role of the educational system in preparing people for work and influencig their choice of occupation, the unemployment and underemployment rate, the role of educational qualifications in recruiting people for jobs, the needs of special groups, the role of the education system in updating skills and retraining, and the place of manpower forecasts in educational planning.
