Lifeskills teaching

Education in UK must orientate itself towards lifelong education to equip individuals with the competence, flexibility and self-empowerment needed to cope with social and working life in post-industrial society. The implementation of personal skills development programmes as a vital part of the curriculum of most subject areas in secondary schools and colleges is considered a crucial step in this direction. Necessary changes in teachers' attitudes and teaching methods are discussed. After defining 'lifeskills' and detailing the classroom techniques of group work which this approach will involve, the authors present a guide to British and American resources available for lifeskills teaching
