Adult learning

Psychological and social factors which may influence adult learning are indicated and conclusions drawn for planning and evaluation of adult education programmes. In adulthood basic skills and abilities which were acquired in childhood are consolidated and many new skills and abilities are learned. The complexity of adult learning is stressed by highlighting differences in adult learners' personalities, cognitive styles, age, experience, motivation and self-perception. Other factors determining the learning process are the social context within which the learning takes place and the way in which formal teaching is planned, carried out and evaluated
