The Development of education in Uganda, 1978-1980

Official report from Uganda for the 1981 ICE on educational organization and educational development. It describes aims, principles and objectives of education. National priorities of education are listed in detail. The formal education system was severely damaged by the War of Liberation in 1978-79. Educational development, therefore, has been concentrated on the programmes for rehabilitation and reconstruction of the national education system. The Uganda National Examinations Board was set up in 1980 to supervise and award National Certificates of Education at all levels of education. The programmes named "Basic Education Integrated into Rural Development" are currently being implemented in all parts of the country and have a strong impact on the role of the teacher, particularly in the primary schools. Major characteristics of the curriculum change include introduction of practical subjects, integration of related subjects and relevancy of curriculum content. Statistical tables and diagrams are given
