Curriculum innovation through population education

This book discusses the introduction of population education into primary school curriculum and secondary school curriculum - Population education can be presented as a study of the inter-relationship between population growth and quality of life, i.e. health, food, housing, education and employment. Or as an analysis of possibilities for improvement of life quality in which population size is one factor. It is related to family life education, environmental education and sex education. Sex education does not necessarily need to be included in population education as there might be strong opposition from parents and public opinion. For curriculum development a multidisciplinary approach should be used. Content should cover population dynamics, population change as a result of processes in fertility, mortality and migration, population size, growth and distribution. It can be viewed at the level of the individual family as well as nation and world wide. The teaching methods should enable students to clarify values, to plan and make decisions and to analyse and solve problems.
