Non formal education in Sri Lanka
This book analyses the contribution of nonformal education to agricultural development in Sri Lanka - Development of universal education especially during the 25 years preceding independence in 1971 originally followed colonial lines rather than those of traditional education, so that there was a weakening of the school community relationship. As a result, educational goals, organization and evaluation methods in the formal school system leave certain educational needs unfulfilled, especially in vocational training and agricultural education. The contribution of nonformal education to meeting these needs is reviewed, particularly in terms of its organization, educational content and financial support. Despite considerable successes, further development in the area requires working out an appropriate educational philosophy and programme coordination. The book ends with brief descriptions of administrative organization, teaching methods and curriculum of a number of existing nonformal education programmes in Sri Lanka.
