Continuing education

This is the text of a speech concerning lifelong education delivered by Amadou Mahtar M'Bow, Director General of UNESCO in Sherbrooke in 1975 - Reviewing conceptual schemes related to lifelong education like adult education, continuing education and recurrent education, it is stressed that lifelong education does not mean lifelong schooling, but embraces school systems as well as informal education and nonformal education. Implementation of lifelong education is dealt with by giving examples from various countries and presenting projects and studies in this field in which UNESCO and its institutions specialized in education are involved.
