Public education

Working with Dewey's distinction between schooling and education the author expands the notion of intentional education suggesting that it takes place as a lifelong education process through family education, informal education through religious institutions, labour and mass media all over the USA as much as it does in school systems - Various elements of the social revolution of the past quarter century put limitations upon public schooling. Based on this statement a revision of modern educational theory is proposed and the implications for such a revision both for educational policies and for teacher educator education are considered. Only educational coordination of all educational institutions can lead to a progressive education which means lifelong education for each individual.
