Equal educational opportunity: a statement of the problem, with special reference to recurrent education
This booklet discusses possible ways of providing equal education in developed countries - Part I outlines the present situation, where access to higher education depends on social class. Alternative educational strategies are discussed, including preprimary programmes, compensatory education programmes for primary grades, comprehensive secondary schools, recurrent education. Part II gives more detailed information on recurrent education, which seems the most promising way of achieving equal education. It should replace most existing post-compulsory levels of education and cooperate with remaining sectors of adult education to provide lifelong education. Sections cover objectives of recurrent education, arguments for and against it, economic factors, social factors, political factors.
