Work-Oriented Adult Literacy Project - Sudan: results and impact. A research report

An evaluation report of the functional literacy pilot projects begun before June 1972 in Sudan - surveys programme in handicrafts, industrial occupations, engineering education and agricultural occupations. Examines literacy achievement, mechanical skills, changing attitudes and improved productivity. Other evaluation criteria used include an examination of memberships of organizations and possession of durable goods. Overall, literacy achievement was good, writing skills less impressive and mechanical skills disappointing. A marked increase in newspapers readership and exposure to educational radio noted. A sample of 4 programmes were examined for fixed and variable costs
