The Content of primary education for post-war development: a regional seminar. Final report

Conference report of a SEAMEO seminar devoted to educational problems and educational needs of primary education, with special reference to post-war educational development in Kampuchea (Democratic), Lao PDR and Vietnam - Although urban population growth has been rapid in South East Asia, educational goals need to recognize that over 75 percent of the people live in rural areas. educational policies have to be geared to rural development and to the needs of the economy. In these countries of large rural population, the use of community schools will enhance the nation building goals. case studies from other SEAMEO countries are described, the Primary Pilot Project and Education for Living Project in Singapore in some detail. A model for deriving primary school curriculum for post-war development is presented. Study groups reported on: methods for identifying problems and needs, curriculum development to achieve educational quality, and educational strategies for implementing change. The seminar also indicated directions in which INNOTECH can assist in the reconstruction period
