Cuba's educational revolution

An overview of educational reform in Cuba since 1959 - The educational goals of the Cuban revolution include universal education linked to industrial and rural development and the creation of a 'New Man' particularly through political education. Goal implementation has seen vast expansion of educational organization, enrolment, intensive curriculum development and pre and inservice teacher education as well as the creation of massive programmes of out of school education for youth and adults, ranging from literacy to mature age university matriculation. A synthesis between formal and nonformal education offers an advantageous solution to some problems of Third World countries, especially since widespread work experience programmes hold out the hope of self-financing of education
