New patterns of teacher education and tasks. Country experience: Belgium, France, United Kingdom

Report on educational innovations in teacher education in Belgium, France and UK - In Belgium the educational reform entailed new approaches to teacher improvement seen as a continuous process and aiming at changes in teacher attitudes. Teacher seminars are organized for secondary school teachers and mother tongue courses for primary school teachers. Technical education benefits from private initiative. In France a new institutional structure for continuous training of primary school teachers has been set up. The programme content and strategies of various education courses at the local level, including the training of adult educators are analysed. New educational technology affects teacher role and tasks. In UK innovations concern teacher education curriculum and courses (integrated activities, compensatory education), developments in educational technology, modes of presentation of professional experience (teacher-tutor schemes, microteaching, study of classroom interaction) and inservice training (changes in the probationary year, development of teacher centres).
