Education in a rural environment
Drawing lessons from UNESCO projects in rural education in various developing countries and the views of its field experts, the publication defines the school role in rural development - It establishes principles to be adopted rather than cites case experiences. Stress is on educational quality based on local needs with provision of practical activities and fostering a scientific approach. Instruction should be conducted in the mother tongue. Primary school curriculum should aim at imparting general education, agricultural education should be provided at the secondary level together with vocational guidance and training. In both primary and secondary school curriculum science education is emphasized. In the promotion of a close school community relationship attention should be paid to teacher education and inservice training in view of the changing teacher role as leader and community advisor. Educational planning is an essential instrument in all development effortss
