Teacher observation in Mexico

A report based on observational studies of secondary school teachers in Mexico who were using instructional television and conventional instruction methods - Objectives were to examine teaching methods and determine how various methods affect student achievement. The overall goal was to help leaders of instructional television plan inservice teacher education and preservice teacher education. Classes observed were in Spanish and mathematics instruction. The study was based on Beeby's theory of educational development which relates educational and professional level of teachers to their educational system's development. Implications for teacher training courses were: raising the general level of education of teachers, training in effective introductions to the classes and in preplanning the classes, and training in teaching methods that would increase student participation.
