Education in New Zealand in 1971-1973; Major trends in educational development in 1971 and 1972

Official report and reply (BIE/CONFINTED 34/Q/72/6) from New Zealand for 1973 ICE on educational administration, educational organization, current educational policies and educational development trends - For primary schools new building improvement and equipment standards have been introduced, the provision of school libraries has considerably increased. In lower secondary schools there has been a move towards heterogeneous grouping. National advisory committees have reported on curriculum development for both primary education and secondary education and the future implications for teacher attitudes and inservice teacher education. Changes in the role of supervisors, in the system of teacher evaluation and in the grading of senior staff have led to an improvement in the school system. Development trends are directed towards: reform in secondary school curriculum and student evaluation, the expansion of guidance services and the use of educational television and other audiovisual aids. Extensive educational improvement at all levels is foreseen for the minority groups
