Reply to questionnaire on adult education

Official report from Thailand for UNESCO World Conference on adult education outlines the national goals to be achieved mainly through functional literacy programmes - The report gives information on adult education programmes and lists the sponsoring agencies. Financing is provided by central government aid. Main efforts are directed towards literacy, basic training and training of rural youth. Attempts are made to adapt vocational curriculum to local needs. Secondary school curriculum has been broken down into units in order to enable the adult to concentrate on one subject at a time, the completion of all subjects leading to the obtainment of secondary school certificates. In order to prevent school leavers from falling back into illiteracy, reading development centres are planned which will provide newspapers to the villagerss
