Opening address by Mr Federico Mayor, Director-General of UNESCO, at the Conference on Science and Technology in Africa; Nairobi, Kenya, 14 February 1994
Speech highlighting the launching of the first "World science report" and the creation of the International Fund for the Technological Development of Africa, stresses the role that the cooperation in science has to play both in the promotion of peace and in the advancement of the human condition, outlines the Organization's initiatives in this field in the South and in Africa, in particular, stressing that the time has come for Africa to move from structural adjustment to social adjustment through self-reliant development, and assuring that UNESCO is going to help Africa to help itself
