Speech recalling that towards the close of the tenth century, at the bidding of the Grand Prince of Kiev, Vladimir Sviatoslavich, ancient Russia became Christian, wielding a growing influence on the historical development of the peoples she brought together, and, through them, to make an important contribution to the history of Europe and the world, cites Nestor, the presumed author of "The Russian Primary Chronicle", for the reasons governing this choice
