Address by Amadou-Mahtar M'Bow, Director-General of UNESCO, at the opening of the World Congress of UNESCO Associations and Clubs; Sendai, Japan, 16 July 1984

Speech briefly tracing the history and aims of the UNESCO Clubs and associated schools movement, recalling that the first UNESCO Association was spontaneously established in Sendai in 1947, less than a year after the founding of UNESCO, refers to further possible action by UNESCO Clubs and Associated Schools within the framework of International Youth Year, 1985, and the fortieth anniversary of the adoption of the Charter of the United Nations, and to International Peace Year, 1986
