Address by Amadou-Mahtar M'Bow, Director-General of UNESCO, at the sixty-third session of the United Nations Economic and Social Council; Geneva, 8 July 1977

Speech underlining the need for a new development strategy in preparing for the Third Development Decade, stresses the multidimensional and endogenous nature of development, in the light of a New International Economic Order, describes UNESCO's Medium-term plan in this context, and examines the importance of narrowing national disparities and restoring a proper balance in the world, briefly considers UNESCO's programmes in the fields of culture, communication, social development, education and science and technology, and their relation to overall development
