International trade classifications : standard international trade classification (SITC)
Although the search for greater comparability of foreign trade statistics has been going on for a very long time it was not until the nineteen-thirties that significant developments, towards the solution of the problem took place. In 1938 the League of Nations published the report of its' Committee of Statistical Experts, “Minimum list of Commodities for International Trade Statistics” The League's ''Minimum List" was "based on the 1937 revision of the league’s "Draft Customs Nomenclature".
