Report of the twenty-third session of the Intergovernmental Committee of Senior Officials and Experts for West Africa. The theme of the session was “Maximizing investments to optimize population dynamics in the context of COVID-19: the imperative to build back better”. At its twenty-third session the Intergovernmental Committee also considered the report on the economic and social profile of the sub region and continental initiatives by ECA in support of sustainable development and regional integration efforts. In addition, the session included a round-table discussion to look in greater depth at the central theme of the meeting. The session concluded with recommendations relevant to the development of West African countries. Taking into account the particular circumstances of the COVID-19 pandemic, the secretariat proposed that the Intergovernmental Committee should conduct consultations with States to identify a host country for its twenty-fourth session in 2021.
