Closing Remarks by Carlos Lopes UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ECA at the African regional conference on population and development ministerial. The Addis Ababa Declaration on Population and Development speaks for itself by making a strong stance to ensure the dignity and equality. It calls for new partnerships to reaffirm the continuous relevance and importance of population and related issues as key to development strategies. He also note that most of these commitments are focused on the youth, and on implementation of pro-youth policies. In his opening address, the Ethiopian Prime Minister offered us a road map to achieve a demographic dividend. He underlined that “the effective implementation of the right polices is an imperative, if we are to translate higher shares of working age adults into economically productive adults.
