Closing Remarks by Mr. Abdoulie Janneh, UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ECA Delivered by Ms. Jennifer Kargbo Deputy Executive Secretary of ECA at the Ministerial Statement of the 4th Joint Conference. Ms. Kargbo, on behalf of Janneh remarks highlighted that, the issues of what economic and political systems are the best for economic development were also thoroughly discussed and from the responses of the industrialized, market-based economies to the economic and financial crisis – the question of regulating or intervening in the market is no longer asked. Key elements highlighted in the context of the development discourse include the role of policies, institutions, legal frameworks as enabling factors to promote growth and development. The ECA and AU stand committed and ready to accompany and provide the necessary technical and advisory support to all member States’ government as they reengage in the development planning process to stimulate economic growth and transformation for sustained development.
