This Speech delivered by Dr. Carlos Lopes UN Under-Secretary-General and Executive Secretary of ECA at the Africa Regional Conference on Population and Development Ministerial Segment. Dr. Lopes, on his remarks highlighted that, Africa should tell its own story and develop its own narrative which is based on the current realities and on the aspirations of its people to develop. To achieve this end, we will require the creation of better statistical systems that make it possible to ensure that data sources used to back our policy analysis are supported by verifiable facts and figures and not estimations and mere formulations. The policies and programs of activities must be driven by our own national development priorities.
