Mission report: to participate in the 12th meeting of the Board of Directors (BOD) of the Southern and Eastern Africa Mineral Centre (SEAMIC)

SEAMIC is an ECA-sponsored institution created in 1977 to promote mineral resources development in eastern and southern African and facilitate access to mineral services to its members. ECA has been associated with SEAMIC since its creation. Throughout the existence of the institution, EAC has been chairing the Executive Board (Now the Standing Committee of Officials) of SEAMIC. As part of the restructuring process initiated in 1996, a leaner structure was introduced at SEAMIC. To that effect, a Board of Directors was created to ensure a more direct and permanent monitoring and supervision of the activities of the Centre. ECA was appointed member and Vice- Chairman of the BOD in 1997. Other members of the Board include Ethiopia (Chairman), Tanzania, the Chambers of Mines of Tanzania (representing the private sector) and the EU (representing the donor community). The minerals and energy programme leader of RCID represents ECA in the Board.
