AfCFTA provides unique platform for Africa’s economic transformation, says Ethiopian Minister

The African Continental Free Trade Agreement (AfCFTA) provides the continent with an opportunity to develop regional value chains that will lead to market expansion and creation of much-needed quality jobs, says Ethiopia’s Finance Minister, Ahmed Shide. Speaking at the end of a roundtable organized by the Economic Commission for Africa and the World Bank on jobs and economic transformation, Mr. Shide said the AfCFTA is a second wind, because it offers a platform - unique form for Africa to advance its economic transformation program. Mr. Shide says industrial transformation and diversification are essential for this transformation and job creation. The transformation of our economies requires differentiated approaches based on the context and the realities on the ground. It will therefore be essential to focus future IDA support on a clear implementation strategy in order to achieve maximum impact in job creation with the economic transformation agenda, ”said the minister.
