Turnarounds of Indian public enterprises : lessons for Africa

The paper discusses six x cases of turnarounds from sickness s of Indian public enterprises. Based on a mod el developed from several studies in India and abroad, it examines the structure of these turnarounds and high lights those aspects of turnaround management that seems to characterise these successful turnarounds. Three successful African turnarounds are also examined for comparison purposes. It is suggested that for durable turnarounds, African turnaround managers could usefully employ several additional categories of turnaround management beyond what may conventionally be employed, especially effective mobilization of the staff and other stakeholder for turnaround and the strengthening of management systems besides the financial control system.
